Much has been made of Detroit’s shrinking population and the growing number of abandoned buildings in the city. As the photos in the post mentioned above illustrate, there is something eerily beautiful about forgotten structures. Unfortunately, these building attract unwanted guests and can become hotbeds of drug-use and crime.

Meat and potatoes no more

Do you know where this burger came from?

Reports NPR:

Bill Clinton became renowned on the campaign trail for his ability to snarf up burgers and fries. Heart bypass surgery convinced him to cut back on the grease. In the past year, Clinton’s gone even further: He’s gone vegan…the former [has given] up meat, dairy and eggs in an effort to reduce the risk posed by a family history of heart disease. Clinton says he’s dropped more than 20 pounds and is healthier than ever.

After reading Eric Schlosser’s excellent Fast Food Nation and Jonathan Safran Foer’s well-researched, yet somewhat preachy Eating Animals my girlfriend and I have actively tried to limit the meat we eat this year. While she has done a much better job at it, we have both cut out at least 2-3 servings of meat each week. Continue reading
